Political Action Committee_____________________________________________


The Political Action Committee tracks political activity such as elections, executive activities, and legislative activities at both the state and national level. They look for items and areas which may have direct and indirect impact on the life of faculty. They have the dual purpose of information distribution regarding items that are relevant to faculty and recommending actions (people to contact, candidate support, etc.) in the interest of the faculty and the union.

The purpose of United Academics' Political Action Committee shall be:

* To promote public and governmental support for public education, government services and health care.

* To encourage the participation of the union's members and the general public in governmental and political activities;

* To improve union members' and the general public's understanding of policies and legislation that affect education, state and local government and health care; and

* To engage in lawful activities suitable for achieving these ends.


Committee Composition

The membership of this committee shall consist of the president and/or other officers of United Academics and members of the union, who have volunteered and/or been appointed to serve by the president subject to the constitution.

Officers

The officers of PAC shall be a chairperson and a treasurer appointed by the president subject to the constitution

Authority of Committee

This committee shall have the authority to carry out activities related and limited to the achievement of its purpose; and

* Shall make recommendations to the executive board with regard to political endorsements;

* Shall make recommendations to the appropriate body/or on its own authority with regard to the disbursement of funds for political activities subject to applicable laws and regulations; and

* The proceedings of this committee shall be governed by Robert's Rules of Order, Revised.

Amendments

Amendments to this constitution shall be made by majority vote of the executive board (or other constitutionally designated governance body) not less than thirty (30) days following the submission of said amendments.
